FBI and Cyber Threats

Comments

  1. This blog states that computer intrusions and network attacks are the greatest cyber threat to our national security and that the FBI are putting great efforts into investigating and stopping these attacks. This blog has given a brief overview of the issue at hand but if this problem really needs attention they should be including how particular cyber attacks can affect not only our nation but individuals as well. Give information on what to look for and what can be done to prevent cyber attacks and what to do if you encounter such issues. Special Agent Richard McFeely states that “it’s important that everybody understands that if you have a computer that is outward-facing-that it’s connected to the web-that your computer is at some point going to be under attack.” Mr. McFeely claims we need to be aware and take this situation seriously. More information needs to be presented for people to be fully aware and to take it seriously.

    1. You could be under attack, but if a person knew so much about the computer wouldn't they prevent from anybody hacking their computer.

    2. All people can really do is attempt to prevent being hacked themselves however if someone truly wants to get their information from the network attacks they can find a way. Many people are effected by this but people still do little to try and prevent the problem. The FBI can continue to try and track some of these people but there will always be more out there better then the last.

    3. Where there is a crime possible there will be a criminal. Cyber crimes are just another type of crime that has become a big deal because the current technology is still new and not able to be completely protected from being hacked making it easy for people to get information from others networks easily. It is important for them to try and prevent these cyber attacks from happening however it is also important for us to find a way to track these criminals and make them serve time for the crimes they have committed.

  2. Wouldnt it be better if FBI hired people to hack the other hackers the more to manipulate them.So they would find a better way to encounter the problems they are having. Instead of keeping their computers at Maximun security because their will always be other people who can hack the best of security. Maybe they should Place fake files of random information and trace it back tot he person that has no authorization to thte files and they could trace it back to tthe perosn who hgacked and it might contain multiple locations of where the person is hiding.

  4. I agree with Luis above. I think when you are dealing with hackers, putting higher security will only encourage them to do a better job to hack in. I do think that maximum security is important, but I do not think that it is enough. This reminds me of the online group "Anonymous". They send out public messages to organizations that they feel are not doing their job ex. Baptist church tat protests fallen soldiers. The online group promises to exploit them, and hack them, which they successfully do. Heightening security for these organization is just another obstacle to hop over.
We are now in a very technological era, that I think will continue to grow and advance. Instead of paper files, we store thousand of online documents. It would only make sense for the government to have a group similar to the FBI that focuses on cyber crime/hacking. If we have guards/security that take care of physical buildings shouldn't we have an online security that tries to manipulate the hackers and throw them for a loop?

    Thanks,

    1. In my opinion there will never be a way to completely protect against cyber threats, risks and 'destruction.' Where there is a will, there is a way. While the FBI feels they are hiring the best of the best, there are many, many more people out there that they are unaware of.
