  1. This simulator showed how quickly a sitition can change how effective proper commotion can be in this hectic sitition. This also showed what a scene such as a traffic stop to a active shooter sitition, or a hostage situations taking could happen within seconds with law enforcement have has to make situations almost at the moment of what course of action to choose such as shooting, Tasers, pepper spray or even just minimizing the circumstances that is taking place at the current moment. This also showed in real legal circumstances that exist as well such as legal court cases effecting law enforcement even used this simulator as a teaching method for officers, to understand they are responsible for the bullets they fire. This was one of the best learning experiences to be part of showing the stress officers may face within a single shift into remembering every single detail that takes places within a given scene when there are extreme dangers that are more important to the officer then communicating to dispatch this showed the intensity officers face in different calls. The simulation showed real life stressors that take place during an event. This is important at training officers in a effective way without them dangmeing other individuals life including their own. This also showed the effectiveness of a suspect’s quickness in an action vs the officers reaction when this comes to a sitition that involves use of force. These quick second decisions these officers make are so critical to the whole circumstances that could be the difference of them going home to their families or just making a arrest or talking out the sitition. 2. This simulator helps train you to be more alert in stressful situations. It also simulated how quickly a situation could change in an instance even if you think you know how you are going to react if the situation turns bad. It showed in each of the different scenarios the different situations that could arise to where one moment you could just de-escalate the problem by talking, to using a taser/pepper spray, and lastly being forced to draw and fire your weapon. This was an incredible learning experience becuase even if you think you know how you are going to react compared to how you actually react being put under the stresser that police face everyday is really eye opening. This simulation showed real world stressers that can happen during any call that you answer to. Ciaccio001/002

  3. I'm extremely glad that I was able to experience the VirTra simulator. For someone that has never held a gun before it was definitely an exhilarating workshop. The simulator allowed us to get as close as possible to an actual emergency situation without crossing the line of actually being in danger. It showed us our weaknesses and our strengths, in my case mostly weaknesses. Working with another person taught us that we need to communicate even under high stress situations and how to move with a partner. We had to deescalate the situation in some cases and in other had to know not to wait for their reaction time because ours would inevitably be slower. The shot simulator/taser definitely kept us on our toes. Instead of just firing and not worrying about being shot we actually were worried because nobody wants to get shocked. It's crazy to see how some calls can escalate so quickly. Just foes to show that as an officer you have to be ready for anything and everything.

  4. Walking into the VirTra simulator I wasn’t sure what to expect because I hadn’t heard much about it. I am very grateful I was able to have this experience for doing the VirTra simulator because it was a awesome way of getting to be in real life problems and see how you would react to them. Until you are in a certain situation you really don’t know how you would react but this was a great way of having a idea. I’m not sure what I think about the shock pack we had one but I understand it’s to help make the officers be aware of the surrounding and not just be focused on one certain area. I can see how this training is very beneficial for the police departments so the officers can try and handle all of these real life problems before they really do happen in the real world. 5. I am very grateful for this experience. The VirTra simulator put myself and my classmates through real life scenarios that law enforcement officers go through on a daily basis. During the explanation at the beginning, we were told that one of the purposes of the simulator was to teach and educate present and future officers and other necessary groups on how to react under stress. It put us in situations where we had to talk down dangerous suspects and whether or not to take lethal or less lethal actions. Some of the scenarios that we were placed in were school shootings, movie theater shootings, domestics, traffic stops, and neighborhood disturbances. These are all situations that we will face in the future as law enforcement officers and by being placed under stress while having to take control of the situation was very beneficial. Even though some of us weren't trained with lethal weapons we still were given the opportunity to decide whether we would use them, when, and why. The shock device was also beneficial so that we knew when we got shot and how to work through the stress level of knowing so. I think that this experience was awesome and that if given the chance again i would go again. I heard that ICC may possibly get this simulator or one similar to it and i strongly believe that it would be beneficial to all criminal justice majors. behappy001

  6. It was an extremely cool experience to be part of the Virtra simulator. I thought it was a great idea that it was not meant to solely be a firearms training simulator. There were also options to change the reactions of the simulator depending on the actions of the person in it. It was meant to give the participant a chance to talk down the situation without immediately using weapons. There were also nonlethal options that you could use in the simulator as situations would dictate. It was amazing to me how life like the simulator was, especially given the different outcomes each simulation could have. The variety of different simulations they had was also very surprising. Almost any situation an officer could be placed in was able to be practiced. Another interesting twist was that they had a device to give you an electric shock whenever you were "shot" in the simulation in order to get the participants heart rates up and simulate the stress level they would experience in the field. This is an excellent training tool for all law enforcement personnel, not only for shootout situations, but also in practicing giving verbal commands and being aware of all of your surroundings. 7. I had an amazing time at the VriTra simulator. It showed how to react in stressful situations. That was the first time I had ever held a real gun, and it showed me how to act/what to say in a stressful situation. I found it incredibly interesting. If you're in school to be a police officer, or any job in the criminal justice field, this is a very good way to show what you might have to deal with in your career. We were paired up, and it showed how to communicate and move around with your partner.
It showed different situations as in school shooting, neighborhood kids with guns, ex girlfriend at new girlfriends house, movie theater shooting, and some scenes that happened at night. It taught me how you don't always have to shoot at every bad call you get. It showed how to deescalate the situation by using a taser or pepper spray instead of going straight for the gun.
I'm glad I decided to go to it because now I know how being a police officer can be like, and how stressful and how at risk your life could be. stlblues001, stlblues002

  8. This was a great experience and I'm so glad we were given this opportunity. I was so impressed by how accurate it was at recording data (trajectory of bullets), and how realistic the situations were. This was definitely something we can't get in a classroom, and I can see why this would be an invaluable tool for a police department. It gives you the opportunity to train for high stress situations in a high stress environment. I would assume that this is as close to the real thing as we can get. In my opinion, every department should have access to one of these. Like former officer in charge of the simulator said, if we're going to hold officers accountable to the utmost standards, they need to have the utmost training. There is no doubt that officers who train with this will be more prepared going into high stress situations. It gives you the opportunity to find flaws in your approach and work to correct them. In real life those flaws might get you killed. RustyPete001

  9. Sometime it becomes very hard to find a well written and well established bog which give you correct and useful information. However, I found this blog and got some relevant information which are really helpful for me.
