Juvenile Delinquency and Watching You!

  1. This video is such a good learning tool. Children are learning what’s right and wrong. Kids are looking at oldler adult figures because children think that what adults do is the right thing to do. At four years old, kids are not going to know what’s a bad word or not until they have been told that it’s not okay to say. Children are so fragile, you hate to get upset with them when they do something wrong, but when they really didn’t know that what they did was wrong, maybe we should talk them through it.-PB001

    1. I like how you described this video as a learning tool, I never thought of it in that way. As I re-watched the video I began to realize that it can be used as a learning tool. The video showed the best way to love yourself, your family, and your religion. -LW001

  2. I think this video represents a lot of what a child and parents do. The little boy wants to be like dad so he says and matches the same thing he does. Most kids have someone they look up to or admire and try to be like. It reminds me of when I was a little kid when I spent majority of my time with my dad. Now that I am older my family says that I'm just like my dad. Even when me and my dad talk he says I remind him so much of himself when he was my age. From my attitude to the way I think. Batman001

    1. I do agree with you. Little kids do idolize their parents, and they look up to them as role models. It is clear that kids learn from what they see and hear from their parents. I admire that you are close to your dad. I hope everyone is in that way. -Cancun001

    2. That's a really good example. I never thought about my personal experiences. Doing things and saying things that my parents do also, and then always hearing how much is sound just like my mom and dad. Now that I'm older I can see and understand what their talking about. -PB001

  3. This song portrays that children watch, and learn from everything around them, whether it seems like it or not. I like how the song makes sure to explain what the father does and how the child reacts and most of the time mimics his father. Although this song does not have any aspect or show any sign of juvenile delinquency, it does prove that children follow people that they look up to. The only difference between this song and most juveniles is that the “follower” in this song is following a good role model rather than following a person that will lead them in the wrong direction and ultimately help them complete crime. -LW001

    1. I like how you pointed out that the child in this song has a good role model, therefore not following a delinquent path. It is essential to be good role models to children, they are our future.

  4. The song, “Watching You” by Rodney Atkins is about much more than a son watching his father. This song is about a son watching his father and interpreting it in how to act and do things. Children are so greatly impacted by what goes on around them. It puts things in perspective, someone just might be looking up to you. We impact those around us more than we know, and the impact on kids is so extreme. Step back from the moment you are in and look at how you are truly acting. Think about whether or not you would like to see a child copy your actions.

  5. You know it's funny watching this video and seeing how much my son is like me. He always trying to imitate everything I do. As a father, I couldn't be any more happier then having a life that is almost an exact copy of me. Brings a tear to my eye that this little things respects me and his whole life partial evolves around everything I am. Something that is funny, is that they grow up so fast. Just last year I was called daddy and now its just dad and of course he is gonna be 9 in a few months. Time goes by too fast. Navy001

  6. This video and song is a good representation of how much children listen and copy what their parents say and do. Children usually copy certain behavior from their parents because that’s who they look up to the most. In the video, the little boy watches his dad and says he wants to be just like him when he grows up. This relates to juvenile delinquency because sometimes the actions that parents do leads their children to imitate that behavior. For example, if a child constantly sees abusive behavior at home then that could lead them to be abusive or bully someone at school. The song relates to juveniles because in ways it can be a good thing to watch your parents but in different cases it can have a negative outcome, like when the little boy copies his dad by saying the cuss word while they are in the car. -HL001

    1. I agree with you that the parenting can have such a strong impact on how a child acts at a young age. Sometimes it is tough to keep your mouth in line when a child is around but it is very important so they do not mimic our mistakes. -Blues001

  7. The music video Watching You by Rodney Atkins is more about the son watching his father. It is about doing and interpreting what the son sees and hears his father do. I kind of like that the father asks his kid where he learned to talk like that. It is clear that kids say and do what everything their father does, especially if they are close to each other. Children do interpret what they see their parents do because they look up to them as role models. We have to show what right and wrong to children at a young age, so they do not act boldly and be a bad person as they grow up. -Cancun001

  8. This song by Rodney Atkins is very unique with its story line, as well as its deeper meaning. This really goes to show that a parent can really have a strong impact on their children without even noticing. Children will always imitate their parents because for many, that is their role model and they want to grow up like their parents. If a child is living under a bad home with poor parenting, this can be a risk factor that can begin a cycle of delinquency if the child is not checked immediately. This is why many parents and relatives should be more mindful of their actions around the young ones since they are always "Watching you". -Blues001

    1. It is interesting how strong of an impact parents can have on their kids. As you said, this can be shown in their delinquent behavior which is a direct reflection of who they look up to which is their parents in most cases. I agree with what you said it would be wise if people would watch how they act around kids and i think that extends to just more than direct parents because you never know who is watching. PJWB001

  9. This video is a really good illustration into how kids look up to their primary caregivers and copy their behavior. What a parent will say or do in front of their kids will be interpreted by their kids in the future. This is shown in the video that it can be praying or it could be bad language. Knowing this is useful because it shows how there are many factors that contribute to juvenile delinquency; juveniles copying their primary caregivers being one of them. What this video also illustrated was how oblivious parents can be about their own behavior and perhaps how they have copied their fathers, mothers, or other primary caregiver. PJWB001

  10. After watching the video by Rodney Atkins you are able to realize that you relate very early on. The whole focus of the song and video to it is that a kid will look up to his parents and idolize them for years and years. More than likely what those kids do at a young age is a direct action learned from their parents. However you can also look on the dark side of that action and understand that kids may act out or act delinquent because of the way his or her parents act in front of them. Parents need to understand this and not be oblivious to the fact that somebody is always watching them.-Purdue001
